Thank to Others

Regardless of your persuasion or beliefs, one of the most valuable things you can do for someone who helps you or does things for you is to give them a heartfelt thank you.

If your gratitude comes from your heart, and it sounds like an honest feeling, it will be seen as a valuable return for them.

Today’s assignment is to think of two people in your life, teachers or others, who you can thank. Since this is computer class, I ask that you send them by email, and “bcc” me. You should know what that is by now.

If you “cc” me, the recipient will probably see this as an assignment, rather than something heartfelt and honest.

Use a few minutes, and think about what others do for you, and write an email to thank them, adding me to the “bcc.”

Two emails, with bcc copies to me should be sent before the end of class today.

From our discussion last week, in your blog, answer the following questions. Your answer should be one word (should or shouldn’t) and a sentence explaining your answer.

1. You should/shouldn’t always have a subject line, so the recipient knows what the email is about before they open it.

10. You should/shouldn’t protect other people’s privacy by using the “bcc” field.

You will lose FIVE points for every part that is not completed.

You will have a daily assignment IN ADDITION to this assignment you should do every day.

This week, every day, find an article about a new technology. Summarize the article in one paragraph, then in a second paragraph write about what you think that the next step is. Where do you think that this technology will lead? How will it change your life?

Recycling Electronics

Research the dangers of improper disposal of electronics, and what can be done to recycle and reuse electronics.

There are three options to complete this assignment, of which you must choose one today. This assignment is due at the beginning of class Friday. A rubric will be posted later today to guide you in each option.

Option 1: For 80 points (out of 100), complete a three page, MLA paper about the dangers not recycling and solutions for proper recycling.

Option 2: For 90 points (out of 100). Create a display board about the many options to re-use and recycle electronics, or about the environmental damage caused by improper disposal of electronics.

Option 3: For 100 points (points of 100). Create a multimedia art piece using electronic components or used electronics demonstrating re-use of electronics.

Option 4: For a guarantee of a 75 or better on your semester exam, and a 100 for this project, create a re-use project from this website. You must get your proposed project approved.

This Saturday and Your Third Six Weeks Grade

If you volunteer at the recycling drive this Saturday, for at least 5 hours, you will guarantee yourself an 80 for the third six weeks. The drive is from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. If you show up on time at either 8:00 or 11:00 and WORK for the entire drive, you will be given credit. You must sign up with me. If you would rather exchange this time for your semester exam, that is also an option.

Grade Check!

Tomorrow, Thursday, you need to be able to show me the following assignments on your computer. These assignments will determine your grade for this second six weeks.

Blog Assignment: Bogus MLA Paper (have it open on your computer when I come to check your work)

And your quiz grade, from the Word Formatting Quiz will be the other grade for this six weeks.

If you did the extra credit assignment, you should show me that, too.

If you want to make my job easier, you can have a piece of paper with your name and class period listing the assignments and whether you have completed them all. If you have this, I will glance at your work and we will be done. If you do not have this ready, we will have to check each assignment very carefully. It’s up to you!
